Stamm Back
Loaded Horn
The
Stamm full-range drive units (*pat. Pend.) came
into being after more than 10 years of tireless
research and development by Stefan Stamm. Parallel
to designing the drive units, he developed and
perfected his techniques in back
horn loaded speaker
design.
The designer's knowledge of the way that
soundboards of instruments work was instrumental in
the concepts he applied to the development of the
designs. Understandably, calculations alone are
never enough in designing musical instruments. Soul
and dedication to one's art are also needed. Every
design created has been laboriously fine tuned by
rebuilding new cabinets and hundreds of folding
permutations until the desired results were
achieved.
Stamm
Full-Range Drive Unit
The
most unique feature of the Stamm full-range drive
unit is that only one voice coil is used to drive
three separate paper cones which are attached to
one another. Most speaker manufacturers use either
silver or copper wires in thier voice coils. In
order to achieve our goals and the super fast
transients we required, we had to make the drive
system as light as possible. After much research, a
lighter material was selected to be used for the
voice coil.
Still
stressing the need for fast transients, a suitably
light cone material had to be used and the obvious
choice was paper. The disadvantage of using paper
is that paper on its own is not sufficiently stiff
to handle fast transients. Thus a special
proprietary polymeric resin was developed. Every
Stamm driver is treated with the polymeric resin
and this allows the paper to achieve the required
stiffness.
A
very strong magnet was needed to create sufficient
drive power to achieve an efficiency in excess of
100dB/m. Alnico magnets with a flux density of
23,000 gauss (2.3 Tesla) were selected to power our
drivers.
Together,
this led to a driver which could handle extremely
fast transients, allowing every musical detail to
be preserved with authoritative clarity, whether
subtle whispers or loud crescendos. With the Stamm
drivers, if it is there, you WILL hear it.
Designing
a good, fast, accurate driver was not enough. It
had to be durable. Many speaker designs have
neglected to take into consideration the harsh
destructive effects of adverse climatic conditions.
We have not. An antifungal compound in our coating
resin protects the delicate paper cone from fungal
attack and the specific polyurethane compound used
in the cone surround is the most durable we have
been able to find for this particular application.
Our Stamm loudspeakers come with a 20 year
warranty.
Especially
when driven with the warm glowing sounds of a
tube
amplifier, the Stamm loudspeaker promises a musical
experience you will never forget.

MINSTREL
$10,795/pair
The
Minstrel is a smaller version of the
Bard.
It is designed for rooms in the region of 180
square feet. The pressure chamber leads to an 11
foot folded back loaded horn. The throat opens at
the front of the speakers to allow for the cleanest
and most lifelike musical reproduction. Controlled
reduction in the size of the pressure chamber in
this design has allowed us to integrate the unit
into a compact enclosure. This contributes to an
open and enhanced sound dispersion profile into the
listeners environment. The immediacy and musical
impact is stunning with no dynamic limitations. You
are THERE with the musicians.
The
Minstrel is designed to be mated with single-ended
triode
tube amplifiers. Extreme musical pleasure can be
obtained by using 2A3 tube amplification, at only
2.5 watts per channel. This is the listeners
ultimate chance to experience the beauty of a well
designed single-ended triode amplifier.

rooms of 144 square feet and above. Set-up is
simple. It is up to the listener's preference for
either a close wall or free-standing setup.
The
Azimuth is designed to be mated with single-ended
triode
tube amplifiers. Extreme musical pleasure can be
obtained by using 2A3 amplification, at only 2.5

BARD
A - $14,995/pair
B - $17,995/pair
The
Bard is the flagship model in the
Stamm
series
of loudspeakers. A full range tricone driver works
in a pressure chamber which leads to two 12 foot
folded horns to create bass. We have found that it
was better to split the bass folding into two
symmetrical foldings than to create bass using a
single 12 foot folding. The resultant bass achieved
by splitting the folding is very deep, clean, clear
and unsmeared. The Bard takes the soul of music and
envelopes you with it.
The
Bard is designed to be mated with single-ended
triode
tube amplifiers. Extreme musical pleasure can be
obtained by using 2A3 tube amplification, at only
2.5 watts per channel. This is the listeners
ultimate chance to experience the beauty of a well
designed single-ended triode amplifier.
The
Bard comes in two configurations.
Bard
A : In the Bard A, one bass folding is placed above
the pressure chamber and the other is placed below
the pressure chamber. This configuration is very
similar to the DAppolito design. This option
makes for a very tall and slim Bard. The Bard A
performs best in rooms which are in the region of
360 square feet . When properly set up, this
configuration projects a very life like and live
feel to the music. For smaller rooms or rooms with
lower ceilings, we recommend the Bard B.
Bard
B : The two bass chambers sit side by side below
the pressure chamber. In this configuration, the
Bard is broader but the same effect of the Bard A
can be achieved in rooms which are in the region of
270 square feet . The larger throat area at
listening level creates a more powerful musical
impact on the listener.
We
believe that these designs bring the listener to
the closest impression of a live musical experience
ever possible up until now.
The
Bards are made in a modular fashion to facilitate
transportation and set-up.
